Abstract
The objective of this research is to analyze the technique were applied in the translation of abstracts thesis at postgraduate students of IAIN Metro and to analyze the most dominant technique of translation used in abstracts thesis at postgraduate students of IAIN Metro.
This research method is a qualitative research. The researcher used a descriptive research method, which use description and explanation to the data of the research. The primary data of this research were taken from 9 postgraduate thesis from Students of IAIN Metro. Data collection was done by analyzing the translation of abstracts from Indonesian as the source language to English as the target language.
This research result shows that there were eight types of translation techniques used by students including namely borrowing (29,76%), established equivalent (28,57%), amplification (3,57%), compensation (4,17%), linguistic
amplification (10,71%) linguistic compression (7,74%), particularization (0,60%), and literal translation (14,88%). As a result of the findings, it can be concluded that borrowing is the most dominant technique used of translation in abstracts thesis at postgraduate students of IAIN Metro.
