Abstract

Writing is one of the form of communicating by using written language. In writing there are several kinds of text such as narrative, descriptive, and argumentative. Descriptive text is one of text which has to be mastered by the tenth grade students of the Senior High School. But, there are some problems that found, one of them is the students feel difficult to express their idea in writing ability especially descriptive text. Peer feedback technique is considered as an important dominant tool in enhancing the process of learning English writing. By using peer feedback technique, the student can share and collect information about the descriptive text So, the primary goal of this research was to investigate the influence of using peer feedback technique toward the students’ writing ability in descriptive text tenth grade students of the Senior High School 3 Metro.

This research is quantitative research conducted at the tenth grade of Senior High School 3 Metro that involves of 35 students as the samples. In collecting the data, this research used test, observation and documentation. To figure out the students’ knowledge in writing descriptive text by written test. There are pre- test and post – test. The students’ average score of pre- test is 49,1 and the students’ average score of post- test is 72,1. The data were analyzed by chi-square formula and t-test.

The finding of the research indicates that there is positive and significant influence of peer feedback technique toward the students’ writing ability in descriptive text, and alternative hypothesis is accepted. It can be proved by the result of critical value x 2_ observed was 13,9 ( 13,9 was higher than 5,99 in the level of 5% and 9,21 in the level of 1%) which revealed that Ha was accepted and Ho was rejected and the result of critical value t_ observed was 19,6 (t_ observed 19,6 was higher than t_table 1,69 in the level of 5% and 1,99 in the level of 1%) which revealed that Ha was accepted and Ho was rejected.
