Abstract
The purpose of this study was to determine the positive and significant influence of point counterpoint strategy toward student writing skills for class X students of the Tourism Expertise Program at SMK Negeri 1 Metro in the academic year 2024/2025. The problem raised in this research focuses on student‘ especially argumentative text.
This research was quantitative with experimental design, The population engaged 448 students, and the samples chosen was 35 students of the tenth grade of Tourism Expertise Program at SMK Negeri 1 Metro. The research instruments consisted of observation, tests, and documentation. Tests involved pretest and posttest to measure the students‘ writing skill. Observation and documentation was supporting methods in this research.
The test results of this research indicates that the use of the point counterpoint strategy has a positive and significant influence. It is proved by the result of paired t-test that showed a sig (2-tailed) value of 0.000 is smaller than 0.005.
