Abstract
Descriptive text can help students to learn simple present tense, because in this text consist of description of something that can give the students more factual information about it and of course the students would get more vocabularies from the text given. Besides that, the descriptive text is using simple present tense. This research was aimed at detecting the influence of using descriptive text (X) towards simple present tense mastery (Y) at the seventh graders of SMP Pancasila Sidokerto. The population of the research was the seventh graders and the subjects of the research were 19 students.
Furthermore, the writer conducted the quasi experimental design, by applying pretest and post-test as the instrument. In accordance with the method in present research, experimental design, the data was analyzed by using t-test that enable to investigate the differences between the result of pre-test before treatment and the result of post• test after treatment.
Moreover, the result of data analysis illustrates that tobserved= 5,17 and it is categorized into high influence. Next, tobserved is consulted to ttable of the significant level of 5%= 2,101 and 1% = 2,878. Finally, the data confirms tobserved higher that ttable. Thus, it can be inferred that the Alternative Hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. There is positive and significant influence between the result of pre-test and post-test at the seventh graders of SMP Pancasila Sidokerto.
