Abstract

Writing is an important skill in language education. It is caused the students are expected to be able to express their language ability, ideas, feelings, creativities, experiences and knowledge in written text. Writing is also one of the skills in English learning that is difficult to be learned. When writing paragraph the students should know the generic structure of the text and make the correct sentences grammatically and structurally. Moreover, students did not master this skill yet. This condition which was researcher found at the tenth graders of SMAN 1Sekampung where many students faced difficulties in English learning especially in writing recount text. It caused their writing was low. Hence, to increase the students' writing on recount text, the researcher used Team Games Tournament (TGT) in learning process. The purpose of this research was to increase the students' writing on recount text through Team Games Tournament (TGT).

The research was classroom action research (CAR) that was conducted in two cycles. Each cycle consists of planning, acting, observing and reflecting. The subjects of this research were 36 students at the tenth graders of SMAN ISekampung. In collecting the data, the researcher used test, observation, and documentation. The researcher conducted the research with an English teacher of SMAN 1Sekampung Mrs. Dewi Mustika, S.Pd that played as collaborator.

The average score of pre-test, post-test I and post-test II showed that there was progressing score. In cycle I, the average score at pre-test was 74.61, and in post-test I the average sore was 76.16 and the average score of post test II was 79.52. Based on the result, it could be said that Team Games Tournament (TGT) can increase the students' writing on recount text performance at the tenth graders of SMAN 1 Sekampung.
