Abstract

This descriptive-qualitative research aimed at describing interference phenomena related to the translation then showing the precentage of interference in Indonesia-English translation. The data of this research are the students' translation product in translating from Indonesian to English.

The research is qualitative research. The method this research is case study. The data collecting methods used interview and documentation. The research was conducted toward ten of the seventh semester students of English Educational Study Program of State Islamic College (STAIN) of Jurai Siwo Metro Academic Year 2016/2017. This research, then, was analyzed by using a data analyzing technique developed by Miles and Huberman.

The results of the research showed that the frequency of students syntactical interference was 86 items (53%), and interference in lexical was 77 items (47%). Furthermore interference may occur; they have lack of vocabulary, differences of culture and translate the text word by word. So this analysis, can be concluded that the kind of the students' interference in translating happened mostly was syntactical interference, it has 86 items (53%).
