Abstract

Writing is one of the important aspects in language learning. By writing. the learners can share information and ideas with other through written text. Writing ability is the skill to express ideas, thoughts, and feelings to other people in written symbol to make other people or readers understand the ideas conveyed. This ability is very difficult, because involving ability or mastery of grammar, vocabulary, and spelling, so it is need a suitable strategy to teach or learn it. Strategy that can be used is Rolc, Audience, Format, and Topic (RAFT) strategy. The objective of this research is to know whether of applying Role, Audience, Format, and Topic (RAFT) strategy can influence the students' writing ability at the seventh grade of MTs Muhammadiyah Metro.

This research was conducted toward 46 students among the seventh grade of MTS Muhammadiyah Metro 2016/2017, class VII.A there are 25 students as the experimental class and class VII.B there are 21 students as the control class. This research is quantitative research design in the form of experimental research. This research use test as the data collection method. To investigate whether there is a positive and significant differences study between experimental class and control class. The data is analyzed by using t-test formula.

The findings of research shows t-test was lobserved 3,86. and fable in level 5% 2.01.1% 2.682. 0.1%- 3.506. It means that lobserved was higher than tante. Ha, therefore, can be received. It can be concluded that there were positive and significant influence of using Role, Audience, Format, and Topic (RAFT) strategy toward the students' writing ability at the seventh grade of MTs Muhammadiyah Metro.
