Abstract

The problem of this research was to know the popular song can increase student's Speaking Performance. Moreover, students are often ignored to mastering in speaking, it caused by several problems, such as: The students have bad speaking, the students are not able express their idea, The students are often embarrassed if they make mistakes in speaking so they are afraid to practice. The researcher tried to apply popular song to increase student's Speaking Performance, because songs always contain native speaker voice. The object of this research is to know whether through popular song can increase student's Speaking Performance. Therefore, the researcher used song media in learning process.

This research was Classroom Action Research (CAR) with the subject of this research are the students At VII.3 class of SMP N 1 Punggur. Then, to collecting data, the researcher uses: Test (pre-test and post-test), Questionnaire, observation, and documentation. The purpose of pre test and post test were to know how far the Speaking performance before and after being given the treatment.

The average score of pre test and post test showed that there was progressing score. The average score at pre test I = 60, and in post test 1 68, 5, it was increase better than post test 1. While, the percentages of the student's pass pre test I = 77%, and then, at post test 2 = 97% students who were able passed the exam. The students' activities in action cycle l as active it can be proved with students' activity in cycle I was 73% and students' activities which achieved in cycle 2 was 98%. The activity in cycle 2 was very active. The writer compared the students' activity in cycle l and cycle 2 was 25%. Based on the result above, it can be inferred that Speaking Performance through Popular song can increase the students' at seventh grader of SMP N I Punggur Central Lampung. This media made the students interested and motivated in the class. So that, they felt so enjoy to doing the task and it also made them understand in studying the materials.
