Abstract

The aim of teaching foreign language is defined in terms of four skills, Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing. It clearly shows that the purpose of teaching English is to enable the students to master the four skills. Listening as one of four skills and not easy to learned so researcher was using English songs as the technique to teach. The problem this research are the student's low motivation, low vocabulary, and also the teacher lack ofteaching technique used.

The objective of this research was to know whether English song can increase of the students' listening comprehension skills, teacher's performance, and students' activities during learning process at the eleventh grade of MA Maarif 06 Seputih Raman, Lampung Tengah. To see the teachers performance and students' activities (learning process), qualitative data was used (test and observation sheet).
Meanwhile, qualitative data (students score) was used to know students skill in listening comprehension (learning product). This research was conducted at MA Maarif 06 Seputih Raman, Lampung Tengah. The subject of the research was students of class Xla inacademic year 2011/2012.

This research, researcher used Classroom Action Research (CAR) and was done two cycles. Each cycle consisted of planning, action, observation, and reflection. As the result, in listening test of cycle I, there were16 students (47.06%) who did pass and it improves in cycle II that there were 30 students (88.24%). It means that the indicators of the research for listening test have been fulfilled in the second cycle. For the students participation during the teaching learning process, there was improvement from 16 students (47.06%) of 34 students who did 80% ofthe activities in cycle I to 28 (82.35%) cycle II. For the teacher's performance, the teacher got 70 in cycle I. then, in the second cycle teacher teaching performance is much better that is the teacher got the score of 80%. Referring to the result of the research above, it can be concluded that song as teaching media is applicable to improve the students' listening comprehension skills. Song does not just improve the students listening comprehension but also improves the students participation during the teaching learning process and teacher's teaching performance.
