Abstract

Reading is one of the language skills that should be mastered by the students in learning English. In the fact, many students found difficulties to interpret the content of the text and low vocabulary. It caused by the teacher has not used specific strategy yet in teaching reading subject. Predicting is an easy and effective comprehension strategy to teach students how to prepare, read, and understand important concept in reading comprehension. The objective of this research is to know is predicting strategy can influence students' reading comprehension especially on specific strategy in teaching reading subject, difficulties to interpret the content of the text and low vocabulary.

This research was an experimental research in the form of descriptive quantitative research. The method was used quasy experiment at the eighth graders of MTs Al-Ihsan Labuhan Maringgai which total of students were 31. Sample of this research were 31 students. Technique sampling in this research was population sampling and used t-test as data analysis technique.

The finding in this research was the average score of pretest was 60.81 and the average score of posttest was 74.84. So, there is increase for about 14.03 points from pretest to posttest. The data result of using t-test indicates that tobserved 13,733 is higher than table 2.042 in 0,05 and 2.750 in 0,01. Therefore, it can be concluded that Ha is accepted and Ho is rejected.

It can be concluded that there were any positive and significant influence of implementation of predicting strategy toward the students' reading comprehension at the eighth graders of MTs Labuhan Maringgai in academic year 2013/2013.
