Abstract
This research empirically tests the common assumption that student involvement in organizations has a positive impact on academic achievement. Using a quantitative approach with an associative descriptive method, this study involved 52 students from the 2021 batch of Islamic Education (PAI) at IAIN Metro who were actively engaged in Student Activity Units (UKM) as the sample. Organizational involvement data were collected through a questionnaire, while academic achievement was measured using the Cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) obtained via documentation. Spearman's Rho correlation analysis yielded a calculated reoefficient of 0.282.
The analysis results show that organizational involvement has a statistically significant influence on academic achievement, evidenced by a significance value (0.043) which is smaller than 0.05. This relationship is positive and unidirectional, indicating that students who are more actively involved in organizations tend to have better academic performance. However, it is important to note that the correlation coefficient of 0.282 falls into the low category. Furthermore, the coefficient of determination reveals that organizational involvement only contributes 7.95% to students' academic achievement.
This finding implies that organizational involvement is not the primary determinant of academic success. Although significant, its contribution is relatively small, meaning that other variables, such as effective time management, study motivation, or academic strategies, play a much larger role (92.05%). The fact that the majority of respondents (92.3%) successfully achieved a GPA in the "Cum Laude" category underscores the students' ability to balance intra-campus activities without sacrificing their academic attainment. Therefore, organizational engagement should be developed in a balanced manner, supported by other contributing factors.
