Abstract
Reading as one of the English skills, that is about understanding written texts. It is a complex activity involves both perception and thought, then it consists of two related process: word recognition and comprehension. Although it has been taught since in Junior High School, but there are still many students who are confused about what they have read.
The objectives of this research is to find out whether there is any significant influence of students reading comprehension by using Individual Approach; This research is a quantitative research. The design of this research is true experimental design that involves the experiment and control group design, and involves of 28 students as the sample. Experimental group is taught through Individual Approach and control group taught through common strategy. In collecting the data, the researcher used test and documentation, meanwhile the data analysis technique that the researcher used is t-test.
Moreover, the result of the research illustrates that tobserved 4.241. Then, tobserved is consulted to table on the significant level 1% is 3.012 and 5% is 2.160. Finally, the data confirms that tobserved is higher than table. It was shown from the result of pre-test and post-test that increased. Based on the result, it can be inferred that H, is accepted and Ho is rejected. It means that Individual Approach is influenced for the students' reading comprehension positively and significantly at the eighth grade of SMP Negeri 4 Metro.
