Abstract
Writing is one of the important language skills that students need to master. However, in reality, many students still face challenges in writing texts, especially narrative texts. They often find it difficult to develop a storyline, determine appropriate vocabulary, and construct sentences with the correct linguistic structure. One learning strategy that can help students improve the quality of their writing is the collaborative peer feedback strategy, in which students are required to provide feedback and discuss each other's writing. However, applying this strategy in writing instruction, especially for narrative texts, still requires further evidence. Therefore, this study aims to determine the effect of the collaborative peer feedback strategy on eleventh-grade students' writing of narrative texts at SMAN 1 Metro.
This study used a quantitative approach with a pre-experimental one-group pre-test and post-test design. The population in this study consisted of all eleventh- grade students at SMAN 1 Metro. The sample consisted of 25 students. Data collection techniques included writing tests administered before (pre-test) and after (post-test) the treatment, along with other supporting documentation. The data were analyzed using inferential statistics through SPSS version 25. The study found that students' narrative writing skills improved after implementing the collaborative peer feedback strategy. There was an increase in students' average score from 80.28 at the pre-test to 90.76 at the post-test. Based on the results of the Wilcoxon Signed- Rank Test, a significance value of 0.000 (< 0.05) was obtained, indicating a significant effect of the collaborative peer feedback strategy on the narrative text writing of eleventh-grade students at SMAN 1 Metro.
