Abstract

peaking is defined as a part of communication since it is regarded as representating what speaker wants to say. Speaking means to express opinions; to say; to talk. And WH-Questionstechniquecan be used to ask some information and can not answer by yes or no. In this research, used WH-Questions techniqueto help the students in finding the ideas. It was aimed to know whether WH-Questions techniquegave improvement to the students‟ speaking performance.This research is ClassroomAction Research which consistof two cycles.

The research was conducted at MTs Darul A‟malMetroon class VIII f which consistof 30 students. In collecting the data used test, documentation, observation, and interview. The pre-test was to know the students‟ speaking performance before giving the treatment and the post-test was to know the result of the students‟ speaking performance after getting the treatment by usingWH-Questions technique.

The finding of this research shows that there was significant improvement from cycle 1 to cycle 2. The average score in pre-test is 66,8and 73,3in post-test cycle 1. In the post-test cycle 2, the students‟ average score become 80,4. In other words, the students‟ average score increased 6,5points from pre-test to cycle 1 and 7,1points from cycle 1 to cycle 2. The condition of the class was getting better. The students listened to the teacher‟s explanation and did not make noisy in learning activity. The students more active during discussion occured and they are more confident, bravest to present and express their idea to speak English.It means that the use of WH-Questions techniquecan improve the students‟ speaking performance at the eighth gradersof MTs Darul A‟mal Metro.
