Abstract

Reading is one of the abilities which must be mastered by the students in learning English. The students who have the ability in English language must be able to identify the text faster. The students also were in difficulty in identifying reading text efficiently. Therefore, the writer used the right technique to overcome the weakness. The researcher tried to using card sorting to make the students easier in understanding and identifying the text faster and more efficient. The aims to see whether card sorting as media can influence the students reading comprehension at the tenth graders of SMK Al Hikmah Kalirejo Central Lampung in academic years 2015/2016.

This research was quantitative research which had been conducted in SMK Al Hikmah Kalirejo class TSM 2 and followed by 35 students as the sample. The technique sampling was purposive cluster sampling. In collecting the data the researcher used test. The writer used the quasi experiment to get the data of students reading comprehension through the questions which consisted 20 multiple choices about the reading text. In this research the writer gave pre-test to and post-test to know the result of the students narrative reading comprehension after used card sorting as media. This test was used to figure out whether the card sorting as media was suitable and could be used by the students in comprehending the reading texts. The analysis which was used by the researcher was chi-square and t-test.

Finally, the data indicates that x2 observed" = 15,04 is higher than X2 table = 9,210 and "tobserved" = 12,954 is higher than "ttable" = 1,690 in 0,05 and 2,440 in 0,01. Based on the result of analysis above, it can be inferred that Ho is rejected. It can be said that there is any positive and significant influence of using card sorting as media on the students reading comprehension at the tenth graders of SMK Al Hikmah Kalirejo Central Lampung in the academic year 2016/2017.
