Abstract

This research aimed to enhance students' procedure text writing skills using picture sequencing cards in grade VIII of SMP PGRI 1 Trimurjo. This research was based on the identification of students' difficulties in writing, especially in organizing ideas, limited mastery of vocabulary, low motivation, and a lack of understanding of the structure of procedural texts.

This research used Classroom Action Research (CAR) which was carried out in two cycles consisting of planning, action, observation, and reflection. The research subjects were 20 students of grade VIII. Data collection techniques included written tests (pre-test and post-test), observation, field notes, and documentation. This research was conducted in collaboration with an English teacher at SMP PGRI 1 Trimurjo.

The results indicated a marked improvement in students' writing skills from the pre-test to the action cycles. The average pre-test score was 45.5. Following the implementation of picture sequencing cards, the average score in Post-test Cycle I increased to 75.65, and in Post-test Cycle II it rose further, achieving a classical completeness rate of at least 75%. These findings indicated that picture sequencing cards were effective in enhancing procedural text writing skills among grade VIII students at SMP PGRI 1 Trimurjo.
