Abstract

English is essential in almost all aspects of human life, such as education, work, and communication. In speaking, learners are required to generate ideas and use appropriate grammar and vocabulary to communicate effectively. One of the learning programs that supports speaking development is the English Zone, which provides learners with opportunities to use English in daily communication.

This study employed qualitative research with a case study design to analyse the implementation of the English Zone and its role in improving members’ speaking ability at Markas Inggris Lampung. The objective of this study was to investigate how the English Zone was implemented and how it contributed to members’ speaking development. The findings revealed that the English Zone created a supportive language environment where members were encouraged to use English consistently in both formal and informal activities.

The implementation of the program included daily communication, English Day activities, tutor supervision, and public speaking sessions. And showed that the English Zone contributed positively to the improvement of vocabulary, fluency, grammar, pronunciation, comprehension, and confidence in speaking English. However, members still faced several challenges, such as difficulties in grammar, pronunciation, limited vocabulary, and nervousness. Despite these challenges, continuous practice, tutor guidance, and peer support helped members improve their speaking ability. Overall, the English Zone is an effective program for enhancing speaking ability by providing a real language environment that encourages active communication and continuous practice.
