Abstract

Writing is one of the important aspects in language learning. Moreover, students often ignored to master this skill. This condition at the eighth graders of SMP N 5 Metro where many students have difficulties in English learning especially in writing skill. It caused their result of learning was low. Hence, to improve the students' writing skill, the researcher used Realia media in learning process. Realia is one of the media that effective and easy to be applied in the teaching and learning process. The purpose of this research was to know whether the use of Realia media can improve the students' writing skill in English learning.

The kind of this research is classroom action research (CAR) which was conducted in two cycles. Each cycle consists of planning, acting, observing and reflecting. Object of this research was the students' writing skill. In collecting the data use test, observation, and documentation.

The result of this research showed that Realia media had positive role in improving the writing skill at the eighth grade of SMP N 5 Metro. It can be proved by the students' average score from pre test to post test. The average score in pre test was 62.27 and in post test was 68.64 became 76.81. It means that the use of Realia media in writing especially descriptive text can improve the students' writing skill at the eighth grade of Junior High School 5 Metro
