Abstract

This research aims to improve students‘ vocabulary mastery by using flashcards in the Quizlet application at SD Negeri 5 Metro Timur. This study employed Classroom Action Research (CAR) consisting of two cycles, each including planning, acting, observing, and reflecting stages. The subjects of this research were 22 fifth-grade students. The data were collected through vocabulary tests (pre-test and post-tests) and observation sheets to measure students‘ learning activities.

The results showed a significant improvement in students‘ vocabulary mastery. The average score increased from 45.14 in the pre-test to 64.05 in post-test 1, and finally to 77.27 in post-test 2. The percentage of students who achieved the Minimum Completeness Criteria (KKM ≥75) also improved from 27.27% in the pre-test to 54.55% in post-test 1, and reached 72.73% in post-test 2. In addition, students‘ participation, attention, and enthusiasm during the learning process showed positive improvement through the use of Quizlet.

These findings indicate that the use of flashcards in the Quizlet application is effective in improving students‘ vocabulary mastery and engagement in learning English. Therefore, it is recommended for teachers to use interactive digital media such as Quizlet to create a more engaging and effective learning environment.
