Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine whether there is a positive and significant effect of using video animation on the listening skills of the eleventh- grade students at SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Seputih Banyak, Central Lampung. This study employed a quantitative research method with a quasi-experimental design using a pretest–posttest control group design. The research involved two groups: an experimental group and a control group. The experimental group was taught using video animation as the treatment, while the control group was taught using conventional audio-based instruction without video animation.

The population of this study consisted of 35 eleventh-grade students at SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Seputih Banyak. The sample included 17 students in the experimental class and 18 students in the control class, selected using a total sampling technique. A pre-test was administered before the treatment to determine the students' initial listening skills, while a post-test was administered after the treatment to measure the improvement in students' listening skills. The collected data were analyzed using SPSS, including the normality test, homogeneity test, and independent samples t-test.

Based on the findings, the researcher concluded that the use of video animation had a positive and significant effect on students' listening skills. The mean score of the experimental group's post-test was 77.64, while the control group's post-test mean score was 68.33, indicating that the students taught using video animation achieved higher listening scores than those taught through conventional instruction. Furthermore, the result of the independent samples t-test showed that the significance value (Sig. 2-tailed) was lower than the significance level of 0.05, indicating that the null hypothesis (H0) was rejected and the alternative hypothesis (H1) was accepted. Therefore, it can be concluded that there is a positive and significant effect of using video animation on the listening skills of the eleventh-grade students at SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Seputih Banyak, Central Lampung.
