Abstract

Writing has been assumed as one of the very important skills in English. Writing skill is considered as the most difficult skill for students especially in writing recount text. The students still make errors in their writing. Analyzing grammatical errors is very important to leam the kinds, the sources and the causes of the students' errors in writing so that the students' difficulties in describe the types and frequencies of grammatical errors made by students in their writing recount text based on Structure and Grammar.

A qualitative research was used in this research. The subject of this research was 10 from 29 of the students' in the Eighth Grade Students Of Mts. Miftahul Ulum Braja Harjosari Braja Selebah East Lampung. The data were collected through observation and documentation. The analysis technique proposed by Miles and Hubarman was used to analyze the data.

The result of the study shows that most of the students' at the Eighth Grade Students of MTs. Miftahul Ulum Braja Harjosari Braja Selebah East Lampung committed some types of grammatical errors. The errors are devided into tenses, punctuation, spelling, and pronoun. The total errors made by students were 121 errors. It consist of 66 errors in tenses or 55%, 43 errors in punctuation and spelling or 35% and 12 errors in pronoun or 10%. The students made the most errors in tenses. Based on this findings, the writer suggest that tenses should be focused on teaching Structure and Grammar.
