Abstract

The aim of the research was to show that the use of interactive learning approach could improve the writing skill and learning activities at the eighth graders of SMP N 10 Metro. The problem which had been identified was that the approachthat used in the learning process is boringand the students need the other approachin learning process to writing descriptivetext.The research was Classroom Action Research (CAR). In order to get the accuracy in data collecting, the researcher used data collecting technique such as test, observation, and documentation.

This research used two cycles that consisted of four stages: planning, acting, observing and reflecting. This research was conducted on June 4th, 2018 until June 8th 2018 that involved the eighth graders which consisted of 28 students.

The finding of the research showsthat the use of interactive learning approachimprovethe students‟writing descriptive text ability and also students‟ learning activities. The improvement of the students‟ writing descriptive text ability proved by the result of the students writing score. In post test I, the average score of the students writingskillis 68.2and in the post test II is 75.1. The improvement is6,9 from post test I to post test II. Then, the improvement of the students‟ learning activity prove by the result of the students observation sheet.
