Abstract

The purposes of this research are to show that using of Draw Label Caption(DLC) technique can increase the students’ narrative paragraph writing ability andstudents’ learning activities at the tenth graders of SMAN 1 Trimurjo EastLampung.The researcher had outlined the problem in this research that focused onwriting ability. It is related on the problem identification that the students havelow motivation to learn English especially in writing, they get the difficulties tocomprehend the main idea and information from the topic and they are also notinterested about the learning technique in the class. They always feel bored inwriting subject.

In this research conducted a classroom action research (CAR)in form of experiment research; the characteristic of the writer iscorrelated at tenth graders of SMAN 1 Trimurjo East Lampung.The population of this research consist of 20 students and thesample is of the class X.Science.1 grade students. The totalsampling technique. The instruments used test, observation, anddocument. Before writer gave the test, writer has been teachingabout 6 times at the class to get information from the students.Test is a primary method in collecting data. Test had been donetwice; they were pre-test and post-test. Furthermore,documentation and observation are supporting method incollecting data.

Finally, the data confirmed that pre-test just 15% studentsthat can fulfill minimum mastery criteria (KKM) and mean of thepre-test is 55. It can say that the result of pre-test wasunsatisfactory. Then, in post-test 1 there are 35% students thatcan fulfill minimum mastery criteria (KKM) and mean of the post-test 2 is 66,25. It means that there is a significant influence ofusing Draw Label Caption (DLC) techniqueon the the students’narrative paragraph writing ability at the tenth graders ofSMAN 1Trimurjo East Lampung.
