Abstract

This research intended to present that the narrative readimg skill can be improved through applying gallery walk strategy. The type of this research was Classroom Action Research (CAR) which involved 27 students in class X C and was conducted in two cycles. Cycle 1 consisted of two meetings and cycle 2 consisted of two meetings.

This research is Classroom Action Research (CAR). The data were taken from readingtest to figure out the students’ knowledge in reading narrative text.Furthermore,the researcherusedthe observation technique to get the data about student’s skill in reading, students’ activities while reading, and students’ participation in the learning process. Theiractivities were notedby the collaborator.The researcher also usedthe documentation method to support and to obtain the informationconcerning on the learning English in general.

The results of the research showed that, from two cycles, the average scores of students’ narrativetext are (a) 40,74in pre-test, and (b) 61,85in post-test 1 as well as (c) 72,59in post-test 2. The students’ activities remained the same way.The students’ activities in cycle 1 can be reported that there were (a) 17students pay attention of teacher explanation (62,96%), 15students ask/answer question (55,56%), 12students were active in group(44,44%), 12students able do the task(44,44%). Moreover, the students’ activities in cycle 2 can be reported that there were (a) 23 students pay attention of teacher explanation (85,19%), 21students ask/answer question (77,78%), 22students were active in group (81,48%), 22students able do the task(81,48%).This result also drew conclusions that gallery walk strategywas able to increase the students’ reading narrativeskill.
