Abstract

The purpose of this researchis to improve the students’ speaking abilityand their learning activityby using Learning Media HandoutoneighthgradeofScoutatSMP N 4Metro.Speaking is one of four basic language skills that should be mastered by the students. By speaking, the students get much knowledge, information, and all they need in the learning process. Moreover, students often ignored, to mastering this skill. Hence, to improve the students’ speaking ability , the researcher used Media Handout in Learning Process. Learning Media Handout is one of Media that effective and easy to be applied in the teaching and learning process.

The kind of this research is classroom action research (CAR) which conducted in two cycles. Each cycle consists of planning, acting, observing and reflecting. Object of this research isthe students’ speaking ability. In collecting the data, the researcher used test, observation, and documentation. This researchconducted with an Scout Coach of SMPN 4 Metro.

The result of this research showthat Learning Media Handout had positive role in improving the speaking ability at the eighth graders of Scout at SMPN 4 Metro. It can be provedby the students’improvementscorein percentagefrom pre test to post test. The percentage in pre test is 25% and in post test is 42,75% became 75%.Based on the indicator of success, this research will finish if 70% student get the minimum score 76 and the result at the post II is 75%. It means that theresearch is complete andusing of Learning Media Handout can improve the students Speaking Ability.Keyword: Learning Media Handout, Speaking Ability, Classroom Action Research.
