Abstract
The aims of this research are to analysis (1) errors of using prepositions by English students of IAIN Metro (2) the kinds of the errorsmade by the students; (3) the factors causing the errors in using prepositions. Thebenefits of this study are: (1) it can increase students’ insight in the understandingof using the kinds of prepositions in their writing; (2) it can be an alternative forthe teacher to design teaching materials based on students’ errors andthe factors causing the errors.
The form of this research was qualitative research. The population of this research was students’ writing ofAbstract in the academic years 2018. The objects of thisresearch were the errors of using prepositions in students’ writing. The data werecollected using a research and documentation of data. The data collected wereidentified based on the kinds of errors, described then concluded.
The results of this research are as follows: (1) the students made errors bofusing kinds of preposition. The types of errors made by the students are: mission,additions, diction, disordering, and errors in the using of prepositions with verbsand adjectives; (2) the factors causing preposition errors are: interference, lack ofpreposition mastery, and English prepositions having more than one meaning in Indonesian. Finally, the implications to the teachers are as follows: teachers mayuse the result as information or reflection for designing appropriate techniques orteaching materials.
