Abstract

The purpose of this researchwas to determine whetherthere is any positive and significant influence of usingbuzz group techniqueon the students‟ speaking performanceat eighth grade of SMPN5 metro.The problem that faced by the students isthe students have lack vocabulary and difficulties to explore their idea in speaking. This research is carried out to discuss howbuzz group technique influencesstudents‟ speaking performance.This research isquantitative research. The research used test and documentationto collect the data.This researchusedpurposive clusters samplingas sampling technique. The researcher gave onepre-testbefore treatment and one post-test after treatment. This research used 29students as subjectof research.The researcher analyzedthe data by using Chi Square and t-testformulationto prove whether hypothesis is accepted or rejected.

Based on the result and the discussion of this research, it can be said that critical value"X2observed" is 22.74and "X2table" = 5% (4.30) and 1% (9.92). The data confirmed that "X2observed" is higher than "X2table". Moreover, the data confirmed that t = observed 2.006is higher than t = table 2.003in 5% and 1.666in 1%. Therefore, it can be concluded that Ha is accepted and Ho is rejected. This shows that there is any positive andsignificant influence of Buzz Group Technique On The Students‟ Speaking PerformanceAt Eighth Grade of SMPN5 Metro.
