Abstract
Semantic is an important content in writing activity especially in writing. Considering its importance, student are required to know its usage. Yet, about this phenomenon, the use of semantic especially ambiguous meaning in analysis students’ difficulties further explanation and discussion . Hence, this research focus on the why the students feel difficult in understanding ambiguous meaning on recount text on the fifth semester of State Institute for Islamic Studies(IAIN)of Metroin Academic Year 2016/2017.
A field qualitative research was used as the research method. The data were collected byobservation,documentation and interview. Miles and Huberman model was used to analyze thedata.The analysis presented here shows that the students’ ambiguous meaning knowledge is still needed to be improved. After analyzing this phenomenon, the researcher just want to know phenomenon of the students’ difficulties in understanding ambiguous meaning.In conclusion, thestudentsvery difficult in understanding ambiguous meaning on recount text especially lexical ambiguity.
