Abstract
This research aimesto show that the use of focused listing technique can increase both of the process of teaching learning descriptive writing ability and the descriptive writing ability itself.Based on the data pre survey, the problems which encounteredisthatthe students find difficulties in descriptive writing because of not having ideas. Focused listing techniquewas helped the students in finding the ideas. Using thistechnique can be alternated in order to make better descriptive writing ability. Focused listingtechnique is a useful technique to help the students more focus recall the important information related to the topic, as the result the students can develop their writing ability. Thisresearch is classroom action research(CAR).The data is collecting by observation, test, field note and documentation.The subject of this research is the students at tenth grade especiallyintheclass X A2.Finally, the resultshowsthat the average of students’ score in pre-test is 61.33, the post-test 1 is67.48and thepost-test 2 is76.15.It can be inferred that the result has reached out the criteria of the indicator of success with percentageuntil 75% in the last cycle. The conclusion of this research is that the use offocused listingtechnique can increase descriptive writing abilityamong the tenth graders of the SMA N 1 Batanghari East Lampung.
