Abstract
Vocabulary has an important role in all aspects of language skills that is important to study, because without enough vocabulary mastery, the ability to communicate cannot be established and the learners will find many difficulties if they are lack of vocabulary. Therefore, the teacher has to create or use of mediumthat is able to raise the motivation ofstudents to learn it. Mediumis the way that is used by the teacher to match the students with material. One of the medium in teaching is electronik dictionary. Electronic dictionarycan be used in teaching and learning activity in order to make the students interested and enjoyable in English learning, especially in learning vocabulary so that enrich their vocabulary. In fact, the writerfound that the students’ vocabulary mastery of eighth grade of Junior High School 5Metro is still low, it’s caused by teacher has not used yet the effective mediumin teaching vocabulary. The purpose of this thesis is to know the influence of electronic dictionary medium onthe students’ English vocabulary.
This research was quantitative research. Technique sampling used to determine theamount of sample was cluster purposivesampling. In data collecting of the writer applied method of test, observation, and documentation. Thesubject of study is the eighth grade students of Junior High School 5in VIII D consistsof 27 students. To get the data, the writerhas given multiple choice tests to students that is pre-test and post-test. After getting the data, thewriter calculated using T-test.The result of this study shows that on the standard of significant 1% or 5%. The ttableshows2,046in 5% and2,789 in 1%,while tobservedis 4,18. The result of data interpretation shows tobservedis higher than ttable,so,2,046<4,18 > 2,789. It means that there is influence of using electronic dictionary on vocabulary achievement.
