Abstract

The objective of this research is to know whether the big book can improve the students' reading comprehension ability and their learning activity. The writer realizes that the big book could be one of the teaching aids for the students as long as the students could utilize it properly. Because, the big book contain reading materials printed in bigger book format for children. So, the students will be interested and relaxed in reading. This research is classroom action research. This research contains two variable (x) and (y). Variable (x) is the independent variable (The Big Book) and variable (y) is the dependent variable (Reading Comprehension Ability). This research was conducted in two cycles, cycle 1 and cycle 2. Cycle 1 consisted 3 meeting, the first meeting was used to pretest, the second and third meeting was used to the action and post-test 1. In the cycle 2 consisted of two meeting, the first meeting for the action, and the second meeting for the post test 2.

Based on the result data analysis since pre-test up post-test of cycle, the students' average score of pre-test is 53,5, the average score of post-test in cycle 1 is 67, and the average score of post-test in cycle 2 is 81,1. So, there is progress from 53,2 to 67 and finally be 81,1. It can be seen from the data, such as: there is improving about 13,5 point of progress average score from the pre-test to the post-test in the cycle 1. Then the cycle 2 have progress average score from 67 to 81,1 there is improving about 14,1 point. It means that the students could achieve the target. The target is 70% students gained score 70. It means that the students' reading can improve the reading comprehension ability.
