Abstract

The objective of the research is to know the positive and significant influence of using Contextual Teaching and LearningApproach on the students writing skill at the eighth grade of SMP N 1 Bumi Agung East Lampung. The benefitof thisresearh are as follows: 1) The students can participate fully in the class. So they will have more motivation in writing English paragraph. 2) The researcher hopes that this research will be positive inspiration for the teacher in teaching and learning process, especially in teaching writing that can implement Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL)approach.

Moreover, the researcher usedthe true experimental design, by applying pre-test and post-test as the instrument. The data was analyzed by using t-test formula to investigate the differences between the experimental group, which received the treatment (Contextual Teaching and Learning Approach) and the control group which didn’t receive the treatment.Beside that, the researcher also analyzed the data by using Chi-Squareformula to investigate the significant differences of students pre-test and post-test score (before and after the treatment) in experimental class.

Finally, the result of data analysis from t-test formula illustrates that t observed= 4.441is higher than t tablewith the significant level of 5% = 2.682 and 1% = 2.406. Thus, it can be inferred that there is a positive ifluence. Then, the result of data anlysisfrom Chi-Squareformula illustratesthat observed= 17.574is higher than tablewiththe significant level of 5% = 5.99 and 1% = 9.21. It means that there is a significant influence.Therefore, the Alternative Hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. With the result that there is a positive and significant influence of using Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) on the students writing skill at the eighth grade of SMP N 1 Bumi Agung East Lampung.
