Abstract
The objective of the study is to find out whether the use of PQ4R Methodwill be able to improve the students reading comprehension in descriptivetext at the SMPN 2 Metro. Reading is the activity to read, that has a purpose to get information from the reading material. If we want to learn language especially English, we have to study reading because reading is very important to get information whenwe learn English as a foreign language. In teaching learning process, the teacher should be able to create or choose the suitable and good strategy. PQ4R Method is one of the technique that can be applied in the teaching English, especially teaching reading comprehension. In this research, the researcher conducts classroom action research (CAR) which is done in two cycles. Each cycle consist of planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. The subjects of this research is 32 students in VIII class of SMPN2 MetroIn collecting data, the researcher used test (pre-test, post test 1 and post test 2), observation and documentation. The research is conducted collaboratively with an English teacher of SMPN 2Metro.The result of this research showed that PQ4R Methodas a methodhad positive result in improving the students’ reading comprehension at the eighth grade of SMPN 2Metro. It can be proven by the students’ average score from pre-test to post-test. The average score in pre-test was 40.6, post-test 1 was 70.9 and post-test 2 was 87.5. It mean that the using of PQ4R Methodas a methodcould improve the students’ reading comprehension.
