Abstract

The main purpose of this research is to show the improvement of Presentation, Practice, Production (PPP) method canimprove the students’learning process. The researcher triedto attest that Presentation, Practice,Production (PPP) method can be one ofthe teaching strategiesto improve thestudents’ simple present mastery.The focus of this research is thesimple present tensesentences. Theproblem is related on the problem identification that the students have a lowmastery in simple present tense esspecially in complementing the sentences byadding–s and es and changing form from the possitive to negative or introgrative sentences.

In this research, the researcher conducts classroom action research (CAR)which is done in two cycles. Each cycle consists of planning, acting, observingand reflecting. The subjects of this research is 29 students VIII3 of SMPN 1Pekalongan. In collecting the data, the researcher used test ( pre-test, post test 1and posat test 2), observation, documentation and field note. The research isconducted collaboratively with an Englishteacher of SMPN 1 Pekalongan.

The result of this research shows that thereare some improvementsinstudents’simple present tenseby using Presentation, Practice, Production(PPP).The improvement can be seen from the progress of the average score in pre-test,post-test I,and post-test II. It was from59.82in pre-test to 67.06in post-test I,and 75.34in post-test II. It means that the increase of the student score in cycle Ito cycle II is9.4point. The percentage of students who success in second cycle is86,2%. It is greater than 70% which has been set by the researcher up in thisstudy.The conclusion of this research was usingPresentation, Practice,Production (PPP)method to improve thesimple present tense masteryat theeighth grade of SMPN 1 Pekalongan is successful because criteria used in thisresearch was achieved well.
