Abstract
The maingoalof this classroom action research was to find out whether the useof STAD could improvethe students‟ writingskill of theeightgrade inSMPPurnama Trimurjo. In this classroom action research, the writer gave the pre-test to know the students‟ skillin writingon the descriptivetext and post-test to know the students‟ writing skill in descriptivetext after giving the treatment that was Student Teams-Achievement Divisions (STAD). This research is classroom action research, it was a research wherethe writerwhowant using this research must be involved the processing of learning directly, and then after the writer conducted the last cycle the writer made the conclusionthat the research has been done.The classroom actionresearchconductedin SMP Purnama Trimurjoby the two cycles. In this research,each cycle consist of planning, acting, observing, andreflecting. The subjects ofthis research were 20students (VIII A) of the eight gradein SMP Purnama Trimurjo.
In collecting of dataresearch the writer used the test (pre-test, post test Iand post test II), observation, documentation. Based on the research was conducted, the writerfound that Student Teams-Achievement Divisionscould improvethe students‟ writing skill at the eight grade ofSMPPurnama Trimurjo. Based on the factin the field, it can be showedfrom their average score in pre-test were 50,in post test I 64 became 73in post test II. It means that there was significant improvement of using Student Teams-Achievement Divisionson the students‟ writing skill of eight gradeof SMP Purnama Trimurjo Central Lampung.
