Abstract

Writing is a sophisticated activity to convey student’s ideas into a pieceof paper. By writing performance, the learners can freely express big variety ofthoughts about some problems or issues surrounding especially, in writinghortatory exposition performance. Hortatory is the text which comprehensively worksthrough about the phenomenal issues in the surrounding thatintends on persuadingpeople to do something or not.It is a text that elaborates the writer‘s idea about thesurrounding phenomenon.So that, it needs an appropriate strategy in it’simplementing. Therefore, Fishbone Strategy is applied to increase the studentstext writing hortatory exposition performance. There are four advantages inapplying the Fishbone Strategy in teaching writing. First, the students easier createan easy‐to‐understand visual representation of the causes, categories of causes, an theneed. Second, the students are able to focus on the group on the possible causes orfactos influencing the problem or need.Third, the fishbone diagram shows many areas ofweaknesses that can be revised before the causing more difficulties. The cause of thestudents deficient in writing English text is the implementing of teaching writingitself used the approach that concern in writing product. The teacher only waitsstudents’ result without guiding them in the process.

The objective of this research is aimed to know whether there is apositive and significant influence of using fishbone strategy on the students’writing hortatory exposition performance. This research was an experimentalresearch in the form of descriptive quantitative. Its implementing has used thecollaboration both the researcher and the teacher accomplish. To collect data, theresearcher used administer test, obsevation and documentation.

Finally, the result of data analysis ilustrated that the average of post test(79.30) is higher than the average of pretest (55,90). The result of data analysisillustrated that tobserved = 16.591was higher than ttable on the significant level of 5%=2.045 and 1% = 2.462. Therefore, it can be inferred that Ha is accepted and Ho isrejected. It means that there is a positive and significant influence of usingfishbone strategy on the students’ writing hortatory exposition performance at theeleventh grade of SMA Muhammadiyah 2 Metro in the academic year of2015/2016.
