Abstract
This research is aimed at finding out and describing the teaching andlearning process in readingsubject especially reading comprehension in StateSenior High School 1 of Raman Utara.A qualitative descriptive was used to approach the data. The writer took 5students ofthe tenth graders ofSMAN 1 Raman Utaraas hispurposive sample.The data were collected by observation, interview and documentaion.Next,concerningto the process of researching, firstly, the writer observed the SMAN1Raman Utaraand documented the data related to the school profile and alsoarranged the research instrument. Secondly, the writer entered on the class tointerview the teacher andthe studentsabout the problems.
The result of the analysis shows that:the teacher problems arelack of students' understanding of English lesson,most students consider English was hard and difficult,environmentaffect studentsinlearningEnglish,lack ofvocabularyof the students,the students arelackunderstanding ofthe use ofgrammar.Thestudent problemsinreading subjectare less comprehension on theunderstanding meaning, fluencyand lack of vocabulary.Theconclusion, thattheproblems faced by the students and teacher inteaching and learning process in reading subjectamongthe tenth graders ofSMAN 1 Raman Utara. Next, it iscan helpthe teacherand students to find thesolutionsinteaching learning process inorder to minimize theproblems.
