Abstract
Ellipsis is the idea of omitting part of sentences on the assumption that anearlier sentence will make the meaning clear. Yet, in fact the use of ellipsis inSMA Muhammadiyah 2 Metro still needs further explanation. Hence, thisresearch focuses on analyzing the students’ellipsis use in their report writing.
Types of this research is qualitative, there are primary and secondary. Theprimary data of this research were taken from fifteenreport writings composed bythe eleventh grades students of SMA Muhammadiyah Metro. The data werecollected by observation and documentation.
The finding reserch shows that the students’ ellipsis comprehensionarestill needed to be improved. After analyzing this phenomenon,the errors were28% of clausal ellispsis, 43% of verbal ellipsis and error were 62% of nominalellipsis.
The conclusion this reserch is, the students of SMA Muhammadiyah 2Metro need further comprehension in using ellipsis and they should give moreelaboration about the use of ellipsis in report performance correctly.
