Abstract
Reading is one of the important skill should be mastered, because therewill be a good writer from a good reader. Reading is the process to getinformation from the text. The problem in this research is the students have lowreading comprehension and the students feel bored when they read a long text andthe primary aim of this research is to know the effect of extensive readingapproach toward students reading comprehension at the tenth grades of SMAN 1Negeri Agung.
This research was quantitative research, and to collect the data the writerused documentation, observation and test. In this research the writer choose X 3 asthe sample, consist of 25 students. The writer used pre-test before treatment tomeasure the students reading comprehension and post-test after giving treatmentto consider whether there is positive and significant effect of extensive readingapproach on the students reading comprehension at the tenth grade of SMAN 1Negeri Agung Way Kanan in the Academic Year of 2016/2017.
Finally the data confirm that X2 Observed =14,4 was higher than X2Table for the5% level =5,991 and X2Table for the 1%= 9,210 that for it can be concluded that Hiis accepted and Ho is rejected. It means that “ there is a positive and significanteffect of extensive reading approach on the students reading comprehension atthe tenth grade of SMAN 1 Negeri Agung Way Kanan in the Academic Year of2016 / 2017
