Abstract
The primary goal of this research is to know improve students readingcomprehension by cartoon story at eighth grades of SMP N 8 METRO. UsingCartoon usually only covey a story through simple images, making it easy tounderstand. Cartoon story gives students exercise their imagination through stories.This imaginative experience helps students develop their own creative potential. Thishelps students to remember vocabulary and interest to read books. Therefore, usingcartoon story as media to improve reading comprehension.
The approach of this research is classroom action research. The research wasconducted in two cycles. Every cycle consisted of planning, acting, observing andreflecting. The subject of the research was the students’ eighth grades of SMP N 8METRO. In collecting data the researcher used test, observation, and documentation.The research was conducted through collaborative with an English teacher of eighthgradeS of SMP N 8 METRO.
The finding of the research shows that there was any increasing from pre-testand post-test. The average percentage of active students in cycle 1 is 67.73%, andimproves become in cycle 2 become 87.09%. From average of percentage in cycle 1and 2 improve was 19.36%. Moreover, the improvement also happens in the students’learning result. Based on the data taken from the test, the students’ average score inpre test 56.45, in post test of cycle 1 is 72.66, and 93.87 in post test of cycle 2. Fromthe data collected, it showed that the post test 2 the results increased was 21.21%. So,it can be concluded that the cartoon story can improve the students’ readingcomprehension at the eighth grades of SMP N 8 METRO.
