Abstract

The primary goal of this research was to know the influence of usingreciprocal teaching tehnique (X) toward students’ reading comprehension (Y) at theeleventh graders of SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Metro in academic of year 2013/2014.

Based on the data pre survey, the problems which had been identified was thestudents found difficulties in reading comprehension because of the media that theteacher using is not approprite, the students have difficult to predict information inthe text, and the limited time in teaching and learning in reading instructional.Reciprocal teaching is one of multicomponent approaches to strategy instruction thatteach student to learn English as a foreign language in reading comprehension.Reciprocal Teaching will make the students able to learn actively while discussingwith the teacher and their peers in a class. In this case, the writer tried to investigatewhether there was influence of using reciprocal teaching toward the students’reading comprehension.

This research was a quantitative research, especially in the quasi experimentaldesign form. The objective of this research was intended to find out the influence ofusing reciprocal teaching on reading comprehension. This research was conducted inSMA Muhammadiyah 1 Metro,whose population was the XI grade. C class wastaken as sample of the research, that was class XI that consist 30 students.Toinvestigate whether there was a positive and significant influence by using reciprocalteaching towardreading comprehension at the XI, the researcher analyzed the data byusing “t-test”.In this research, the researcher used pre-test on control class and post-test on the experimentalclass. The pre-test average score of control class was 60.33and Meanwhile, the post-test average score of experimental class was 74, The resultof data analysis was tobserved = 10.614 and ttable = 2,045Based on the data result confirmed that tobserved is higher than ttable. Therefore,it can be inferred that Ha was accepted. It means that there was a positive andsignificant influence ofusing reciprocal teaching toward students’ readingcomprehension at the eleventh grade ofSenior High School 1 Metro in the academicof year 2013/2014
