Abstract

Language is defined as a tool of communication to build a social relationshipamong the human being. In the bottom line, all the human being used language tocommunicate each other considering the fact that languages may vary depend on theterritory. Thus language is learnt by many people over the world. A second languagelearner often makes many errors in using pronoun in sentence. As we know thatpronoun is the one of the vital elements of language. Thus a large understandingabout pronoun is very extremely needed.

This research aimed to obtain the information about the percentage of thestudents’ errors and knowing the reason why the students of SMP Muhammadiyah 3Metro made errors in using pronoun in sentence. The kind of this research isqualitative research. The researcher collects the data from documentation andinterview. Moreover, the researcher applied Miles and Huberman’s model to analyzethe data.

The findings shows that the most of students make errors is on usingreflexive pronoun with 26%, the second level is possessive pronoun with 24%, thethird level is object pronoun with 22%, the fourth level is subject pronoun with 14%,the last is possessive adjective with 14%.

In conclusion, students at the seventh grade of SMP Muhammadiyah 3 Metrostill make errors in using pronoun in sentence. There are two reasons why thestudents make errors in using pronoun are caused by internal factor and externalfactor. Internal factor is caused by their interest, they do not pay attention toward theexplanation is given by teacher. External factor are caused by a brief explanation thatis given by the teacher and teaching method that is not suitable. Thus, the teachershould explain the material clearly and uses teaching method suitable.
