Abstract

Reading is one of the important aspects of the glittering world ofeducation. Reading is also a skill that must be mastered by the learners of English.To be able to read the students need to be trained to use the method andappropriate reading materials to make it easier to understand the reading. In thisstudy the author has the main objective is to know whether thepre-questioningtechnique is able to improve students' reading comprehension. Subjects in thisstudy were theeleventhgradersSMA N 5 METROAcademic Year 2015/2016. Inaddition, the researchers also wanted to know whether the strategy is able to makethe students become more active in the process of learning English, especiallyreading.

This research is classroom action researh. This study wasconducted in twocycles, the first cycle was conducted three meetings, and the second cycle wasconducted two meetings. Each cycle consists of planning, action, observation andreflection. In this study, students were given the initial test (pre-test) prior totreatment and final test (post-test) after treatment. The methods of data collectionin this study is the observation, field notes, testing, and documentation. Thepurpose of the initial test and final test is to determineabout the increasing ofstudentsscorebefore and after the given action. This study issuccessif80% ofstudents scored above 72and liveliness in the top 50%. This study wascommissioned jointly by the subject teachers eleventh graders EnglishSMA N 5Metro.

The results of the study in the first cycle shows that the percentage ofactive students is 58.3 and the second cycle is 87.5 while the average valueof thepre-test cycle 1 is 62.2or 4 students completed, and post-test 1 was 70.4 or 12students completedand the post test cycle 2 is 85.4 or 25students completed. Thisfact is showingthat the teaching of English to use thepre-questioningtechniquecan improve students' reading comprehension in a textnarration, especially theXIgraders of SMA N 5 Metro.
