Abstract

This research aimed to know whether the use of Question-Answer Relationship (QAR) strategy can improve students‟ reading comprehension ability in narrative text. The kind of this research is a classroom action research (CAR). The research is conducted in two cycles, and each cycle consists of planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. Object of this research was the students reading comprehension ability. In collecting the data, the researcher used observation, test, and documentation. This research was conducted with the English teacher of MTsN 1 East Lampung.

The result of this research showed that QAR strategy had positive role in improving the reading comprehension ability in narrative text among the eight graders of MTsN 1 East Lampung. It can be proved by the students‟ average score from pre-test to post-test. The average score in pre-test was 66 and in post-test was 74.68 became 76.79. It can be inferred that using Question-Answer Relationship (QAR) can improve reading comprehension among the students.

The conclusion of this research is that the use of Question-Answer Relationship (QAR) Strategy was effective to improve the students‟ reading comprehension ability in narrative text. It had been proved by the result of the students‟ reading comprehension score.
