Abstract
The purpose of this research are to showthatusingContextual Redefinition Strategy Improvethe student’s reading comprehensionof the tenth graders at SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Metro. Thewriter had outlined the problem in this research that focused on Reading Comprehension. It is related onthe problem identification that the students havelow motivation to learn English especially in reading, there is difficulties to determine the main idea in the text, also not interested about the learning method in the class.
The kind of this research was classroom action research (CAR) which was conducted in two cycles. Each cycle consists of planning, acting, observing and reflecting. In this research the students were given pre test before treatment and post test after treatment. The object of this research was 21students in B class at the tenth grade of SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Metro. In collecting the data the researcher used test (pre test, post test 1 cycle I and post test 2 cyclesII), observation,and documentation.
The result of this research shows that there is improving reading comprehension of English student. The increasing can be seen from the average score in pre test, post test 1 cycle Iand post test 2 cyclesII. It was from 55.09 in pre test to 72.47 post test 1 and 83.19in post test 2. Based on the result above, could be concluded that increasing student’s reading comprehension through Contextual RedefinitionStrategyat the tenth grade of SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Metro is successful because criteria in this research was achieved well.
