Abstract

The purpose of this research are to show that using character,setting, purpose, action, conclusion, emotion (C-SPACE) strategy can improve the students’ writing ability and their learning activities at the tenth grade of SMA N 1 Punggur Central Lampung in the academic year 2019/2020. The researcher had outlined the problem in this research that focused on students'writing problem. To improve students' writing ability, the researcher used C-SPACE strategy.

The kind of this research is classroom action research (CAR) which was conducted in two cycles. Each cycle consists of planning, acting, observing and reflecting. Object of this research is the students’ writing ability. In collecting the data, the researcher used test, observation, documentation, field notes. This research was conducted which an English teacher of SMA N 1 Punggur that was Mrs. Deliana Wardhani, S.Pd.

Finally, the data confirmed that pre-test just 18% of students that can fulfill Minimum Mastery Criteria (MMC) and the average score of the pre-test was 56. It can say that the result of pre-test was unsatisfactory. And, in post-test I there are 53% of students that can fulfill MMC and the average score of the post-test was 66.Then, the resulting post-test II was 76% students that can fulfill MMC with the average score was 78. It means that the use of C-SPACE strategy in writing can improve the student’s writing ability at the tenth grade of SMA N 1 Punggur
Central Lampung.
