Abstract

This research conducted in order to increase students’ writing ability of Present Continuous Tense by using picture books media among the seventh graders of SMP AL ISMAILIYUN Natar Lampung Selatan and also to help the English teacher of seventh graders of SMP Al Ismailiyun in managing classroom activities in learning present continuous tense.

In conducting this research, the researcher used Classroom Action Research (CAR) as the method of research. The researcher taught present continuous tense by using picture books media at seventh graders of SMP Al Ismailiyun. This research consisted of two cycles and each cycle consisted of four elements, they are: planning, acting, observing, and reflecting.

The result of this research shows that using picture books media in learning teaching in present continuous tense at seventh graders of SMP Al Ismailiyun motivate the students to study English and increasing their present continuous tense mastery. The students’ responses showed that they are interesting in learning Present continuous tense and also the result of students’ activities are increasing. The students’ average score in pre-test was 60, the average score in post-test I was 65,6, and the average score in post-test II was 72,4. The students’ percentages who passed the minimum standard of criteria (MSC) in pre-test was 32%, in post-test I was 52%, and post-test II was 80%. The implementation of picture books media in learning present continuous tense help students effectively, and also the students are motivate and interest in learning English.
