Abstract

This study is aimed at detecting there was positif and significant influence of using story completion technique on students‟ speaking performance at the third semester of English Education Department of state institute for islamic studies of metro in academic years 2017 / 2018.

The researcher carried out quantitative study with one group pretest-posttest design. The population of this research was third semester of English Education Department of State InstituteFor IslamicStudiesof Metro, to be choosen one class C class as a sample by using purpossive sampling. The instrument of this research was a speaking testand video recording. This research analyzed the data by using T-test and Chi-Square formula.

Hypothesis testfrom T-testshowed thatt-observation= 6.322 was higher than t-table(5% =2.604, 1% =2.7975).Then, the result of data analysis from Chi-Squareformula illustratedthat observed= 10.12was higher than table(5% = 5.99,1% = 9.21). It could be concluded that null-hypothesis was rejected. The conclusion of this research wasthere waspositive and significant influence of Story Completion technique on students‟speaking performance at third semester of English Department of State Institutefor IslamicStudiesof Metro.Keywords: Story Completion Technique, Speaking Performance.
