Abstract
The objectives of this study were to know the type of anaphora used in Kahlil Gibran’s "The Prophet", and to describe the contextual meaning of each of the subtitles.
This research method was descriptive qualitative research. The data for this research was taken from Kahlil Gibran's book entitled “The Prophe”t and translated by Amos Adi in 2020. For the research, the writer used English version by project Gutenberg 2 Bahasa Indonesia – Indonesia. In Kahlil Gibran’s “The Prophet”, there are 26 subtitles, but the writer only takes 10 subtitles for research. In collecting data, the author reads Kahlil Gibran’s "The Prophet", then identifies the anaphora used, then marks the sentence or phrase that contains the type of anaphora and analyzes its type and contextual meaning.
The research results show of data analysis found 4 types of anaphora used in Kahlil Gibran’s “The Prophet”, namely pronominal anaphora there are 12 data (48%), lexical Anaphora there are 6 data (24%), verb anaphora 5 data (20%), and adverb anaphora found only 2 data (8%). The most dominant in the use of anaphora in Kahlil Gibran’s “The Prophe”t is pronominal anaphora types.
