Abstract

The purposes of this research were to inventorize the types of grammatical intricacy that were frequently used in Undergraduate Thesis of English department students and to find out the use of grammatical intricacy in undegraduate thesis of English department students at IAIN Metro in the Academic Year of 2018/2019.

This research was expected to be beneficial in inforning the useful of grammatical intricacy. It was because the concept of grammatical intricacywas very important in studying the writingskill. This research was a qualitative research. The type of research was a case study. Meanwhile, the qualitative design used in this study was a descriptive study. Data was taken from the primary sources that were ten undegraduate thesis of English department students IAIN Metro in the Academic Year of 2020/2021, particularly in the part of background of study.

The results of this research include of to research result. The first research result is about the use of grammatical intricacy on students’ Undergraduate Thesis of English department at IAIN Metro. It is investigated that the use of grammatical intricacy on students’ Undergraduate Thesis of English department at IAIN Metro is dominated by apropriate use because there were 130 appropriate uses of grammatical intricacy (73%). Furthermore, the second research result is about the most dominant type of clause of grammatical intricacy on students’ Undergraduate Thesis of English department at IAIN Metro. It was investigated that the most dominant type of grammatical intricacy is hypotactic clause because there are 85 uses of hypotactic clause (47%).
